Privacy Policy - Berlin Chaos Mesh
We have designed this service so that you may browse it without providing any personal data. However, the nature of mesh radio networks means that participating nodes broadcast data publicly over radio frequencies, some of which we collect and publish.
How we use data
We collect data broadcast publicly by Meshtastic and MeshCore radio nodes. This may include:
- Node identifiers (software- and hardware-derived IDs)
- Node names and short names set by operators
- GPS coordinates and position data, as well as movement data over time
- Amateur radio callsigns (if any)
- Signal metadata (RSSI, SNR, hop count, timestamps, etc.)
This data is collected under Art. 6(1)(f) DSGVO - our legitimate interest in documenting and visualizing mesh network coverage and connectivity. The source is publicly broadcast radio frames; we do not intercept private communications.

Opt-out
Node operators may opt out at any time by including a 🛑 (stop sign) emoji anywhere in their node’s long name. We will not collect or publish data from nodes carrying this marker. Existing records for that node will be removed within 7 days of detection.
You may also request manual removal of any records associated with your node by contacting us at data@dod.ngo. Email is sufficient; no formal procedure is required.
Use of third-party applications
No third-party applications are used.
Sharing your data
We do not sell or pass on collected data to third parties.
Transfers outside the EU
Goerli Dezentral gGmbH is based in Germany. Data is processed and stored on Germany-based infrastructure.
Automated decision-making
We do not use automated decision-making or profiling.
Your rights
Under DSGVO / Regulation EU 2016/679 you have the right to: access data we hold about you; rectification; erasure (Art. 17); restriction of processing; objection (Art. 21); and data portability where applicable. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at data@dod.ngo.

We may update this policy at any time. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of the current version.
